To upload your IRS 8949 from TaxBit into TaxAct, follow these steps to make the process as simple as possible.
To start off, you’ll need to make sure you have downloaded the TaxAct CSV version of the 8949 from TaxBit, and then you’ll log into your TaxAct account. Once logged in, it’s time to get started!
Note: Files with 10k+ transactions will fail to upload. If this happens, you'll see an error message stating that the file is not a simple comma delineated format. The workaround in order to import your 8949 will be to breakdown the current file into smaller files to successfully upload.
How to Upload to TaxAct:
Step 1: Open the Help Center and type "8949 Import." Click either "CSV File Import" or "Brokerage Import".
Please Note: It says "Stocks Import", it is okay to upload crypto files!
Step 2: On the following page, click the green CSV Import button
Step 3: Choose the CSV 8949 Form that you downloaded from TaxBit
Step 4: The columns from the imported CSV will need to match with TaxActs format. Once verified, click on “Continue.”
Please Note: If you have two "Description" columns, you will need to change one "Description" column to "Additional Description" before continuing.
Step 5: Select all transactions. The first column will not be selected.
Step 6: Complete the import!
Congratulations! You have now uploaded your data into TaxAct!
