The Tax Optimizer (TO) is a great tool to get a snapshot of your crypto balances and their current unrealized positions based on your current My Transactions data. For more information on the TO and how to use it, check out our article HERE.
If your TO appears to be incorrect, read the information below and learn how to correct it.
Common causes
Since the TO derives its data from the My Transactions page, incorrect balances shown on the TO will be the result of missing or incorrect data on the My Transactions page. It's important to note here that your TO may never be exact; some platforms don't automatically report fees on transactions in their exports and API connections.
With that context, here are common issues with the My Transactions page that may be messing with your TO balances:
- Your API and wallet integrations or your CSV uploads for a specific platform need to be updated. For a guide on how to get your API and wallet transactions updated, look HERE.
- Your API, wallet integrations, or CSV uploads don't contain a complete history of your activities on a specific platform. This could include staking balances not coming over API, not including income transactions with your CSV upload, etc.
- For whatever reason, you have missing cost basis for certain pools of a specific asset. The TO keeps the asset pools with cost separate from those without. For more information on missing cost basis, check out our article HERE.
As you can see, ensuring that your My Transactions data is up to date and free of errors is the best way to correct your TO balances.
