Connecting exchanges with your TaxBit account is critical for accurately reporting on your taxes. When you attempt to connect an exchange with an API key and it doesn't work, it can be frustrating. In this article we will walk through recommended troubleshooting steps to resolve connecting an exchange that requires an API key, and is not working.
To start with, it's important to address where the API key and API secret look like and come from. The look of an API key and Secret can change from exchange to exchange. Generally speaking, these should appear to be a random assortment of letters and numbers.

If your exchange connects, you will get a confirmation message and a notification letting you know that a sync has started. If your exchange is not connecting, you will remain on the screen where you type in your credentials and you will not receive a confirmation message.
If you see three dots appear for a brief period and then disappear, there is likely an issue with how the credentials were types in.
The most common reason that an exchange will not connect is because the API key and API Secret have been pasted into the wrong field. If you copy and pasted your API key and API Secret over from the exchange then double check they are in the correct fields.
If the API key and API secret are in the correct fields, then the next thing you will want to check is if you entered the information correctly. It's important that the information matches exactly as it was provided by the exchange or the sync will not work.
