API set-up guides
If you haven’t seen them already, we’ve put together some step-by-step guides to walk you through the API set-up process! Feel free to check out the full list HERE. (This list is continually growing. More to come!)
If you have already gone through all of the steps in the API set-up guide for your exchange, then we have some other suggestions to help troubleshoot!
How do I know the API connection failed?
To understand if your API connection failed, it’s important to know what the API key and API secret look like and where they come from. In general, both the API key and secret are usually randomized alphanumeric characters. Of course, each API key and secret is unique to each exchange and account.
If there was an issue with the credentials you typed into TaxBit, you may see a loading symbol next to "Link Exchange" for a brief period and then disappear. More likely though, you will see in red text,“ Credentials are Invalid. Please verify and try again.” or "Connection has failed. Please try again.".
Please note: When API Keys are generated for your connection, 'Read-Only' permission must be set for them to properly interface with TaxBit. Please ensure this step is followed before further troubleshooting.
Adding credentials correctly
The most common reason that an exchange will not connect is because the API key and API secret have been pasted into the wrong field. Double check that you have copied and pasted each one into the correct field.
If the API key and API secret are in the correct fields, then the next thing you will want to check is if you entered the information correctly. It's important that the information matches exactly as it was provided by the exchange or the sync will not work.
It’s possible that some characters may get left off when you are copying the key and secret from the exchange. Double check that you are highlighting the entire string of characters before pasting it into TaxBit.
How do I know if my exchange synced?
The difference between an exchange being unable to connect and an exchange failing to sync is the message that you will get when your API is connecting. If your exchange connects, you will get a confirmation message and a notification letting you know that a sync has started. If your exchange is not connecting, you will remain on the screen where you type in your credentials and you will not receive a confirmation message.
